  • Abby Shapland

    Abby Shapland, Program Coordinator

    Years living in the community: 2

    College: Indiana University (BA), Olivet Nazarene (MA)

    Professional: I spent the first 16 years of my career working as a high school Special Education teacher, primarily serving students with mild to moderate disabilities, and later in my career, working within a functional life skills classroom. Starting this year, I will be teaching the ‘On My Own’ class (2-3 year olds) at Westminster Preschool.

    Personal: I grew up in Naperville and lived in Chicago for 14 years prior to moving out to Glen Ellyn. I am fortunate to call this community home for myself, my husband, and our three young kids.

  • Rich Cline

    Rich Cline, Board Member & Mentor

    Years living in the community: Most of my life

    College: University of Illinois (BS), Northwestern University (MBA)

    Professional: Prior to retirement in July 2023, I had a career in real estate private equity.

    Personal: I was raised in Glen Ellyn and am the third generation of my family to attend GW. I have been married to my college sweetheart, Rebecca, for 41 years, and we have five children who were raised in Wheaton, where Rebecca and I still live. We have strong ties to the Wheaton and Glen Ellyn communities, with much of our family still residing in these areas.

  • Sara Howland

    Sara Howland, Board Member & Mentor

    Years living in the community: 4

    College: University of Illinois (BA, MA), Northwestern University (MBA)

    Professional: I lead an operations team at a Chicago-based precision medicine start-up. Previously I was in healthcare consulting and worked in operations at an academic medical center.

    Personal: I grew up in Wheaton and with the exception of college and post-college years have been in the Wheaton & Glen Ellyn communities my whole life. I live with my husband and our three young kids.

  • Patrick Roach, Board Member

    Years living in the community: 24

    College: Wheaton College (BA)

    Professional: President and Founder of Southwestern Real Estate, a residential real estate brokerage now serving in 8 states

    Personal: I grew up in southern Wisconsin and moved to the area to attend Wheaton College in 1991.  My wife and I settled in Glen Ellyn in 2000 and have raised our three children here, all of which went to GBW.  We are sending our last off to college and looking forward to this next chapter of an empty nest while parenting adult children.  

  • Carla Franz, Mentor

    Years living in the community: 12

    College: Indiana University (Bachelors in Journalism with concentration in Business)

    Professional: My career began in advertising, with initial experience on the agency side of the business and then shifting to ad sales (print/magazines). After time at home with our children when our family was growing, I began working in freelance marketing and consulting for Nextdoor platform startup. Since then, I’ve also gained experience working in sales and development - in both retail and packaged goods areas. Most recently have joined a local non-profit staff, in their programs manager role (working to further develop community partnerships).

    Personal: I grew up in Arlington Heights, and have lived in Chicago and the Chicagoland area since college graduation. My husband Mark and I moved to Glen Ellyn in 2012 and have enjoyed raising our 5 children here and also love being involved in the community.

  • Eileen Mullin-Gasteier, Mentor

    Years living in the community: 12

    College: University of Dayton (BA in Psychology), Loyola University of Chicago (MBA)

    Professional: I am a lifelong development professional with 24 years of fundraising and startup experience in non-profits. In 2017, I launched EMG Fundraising to consult with NPOs across Greater Chicago and the country. I’ve worked primarily in the public education and health (Parkinson’s) sectors. My clients now include NPOs in the arts, social services, afterschool programming and various health agencies.

    Personal: I am a native of Cleveland, Ohio and have called greater Chicago home for half of my life. My husband Brian and I have a freshman and junior at West (Jack is a TPN Cohort 1 Member; Charlie hopefully Cohort 3!). I play tennis and platform tennis, am an avid yogi, and I make a hobby out of having hobbies: reading, snowboarding, foreign language (French and Spanish), music (voice, Irish drum, piano, guitar), travel, gardening, to name a few.

  • LLoyd Berry, Mentor

    Years living in the community: 9

    College: Baylor University - Concentration in Finance and Real Estate

    Professional: I spent over 30 years as a real estate executive, 20 of which were at Colliers International as Managing Director. During this time, I was overseeing property and construction management divisions for Colliers in the Chicago metro market. Previously, I owned a technology consulting practice that serviced clients throughout the United States. I’m currently involved as an equity partner and advisor to a consumer product start up company.

    Personal: I was born and raised in Champaign, IL and attended The University of Illinois prior to transferring to Baylor University. While at Illinois, I joined Sigma Chi fraternity and made lifelong friendships there, including Rich Cline. I love living in Glen Ellyn with my wife, Polly, and sons Brody (senior at GW) and Jackson (freshman at GW). Our third son, Dru, lives in Chicago where he works in the journalism industry. My wife is the COO of a wellness travel company based in GE and Cyprus, and an accomplished yoga instructor in the Chicago suburbs. Our family are members of First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn and I am a past Director of the Glen Ellyn Planning Commission.

  • Linda Raymond, Mentor

    Years living in the community: Most of my life

    College: Indiana University ( BS ), Northwestern University (MBA)

    Professional: I spent the first stage of my career in the banking field.. After 12 years as a “ family manager”, I re-entered the workforce as the Coordinator of the Dupage County Family Violence Council and recently ended my career in healthcare advocacy.

    Personal: I was raised in Glen Ellyn and am also a 3rd Generation alumnus of GW. My husband and I continue to live in Wheaton where my 3 children were raised. I feel a deep commitment to Glen Ellyn/Wheaton and remain active in its community and not-for profits.

  • Matt Hunt, Mentor

    Years living in the community: 15

    College: Indiana University (BS in Accounting and Finance), DePaul University (MBA)

    Professional: Began my career in public accounting at Grant Thornton in Chicago. When Sarbanes-Oxley came out I joined an internal audit group at a large manufacturer based downtown and then spent the next 18 years building and leading internal audit groups at large Chicago companies. I am a CPA and CFE. For the last two years I have been leading a sales organization for a developing tax incentive firm based in Houston.

    Personal: I was born outside of Detroit and mostly raised in Lafayette, IN. After attending Indiana, I followed my soon to be wife Alison to Chicago where we lived downtown for ten years before moving to Glen Ellyn. Our son Ethan will be a junior at West while our other son Hank is in 8th grade at Hadley. I enjoy golfing, fishing, spending time at the lake, and generally being outdoors. Our family loves to travel, hike, and see new things.

  • Scott Walti, Mentor

    Years living in the community: 12

    College: Miami University (OH) - Bachelors in Finance and Accounting

    Professional: Have been in professional services with RSM my entire career. After starting my career in audit, I transferred to our M&A consulting practice and provide financial diligence to private equity and corporations that are buying/selling corporations.

    Personal: I was born in Indianapolis (Go Colts!) and lived there until college. I’ve been in the Chicago area since graduating college, spending 10 years in the city and 12 in the burbs. My wife, Melissa, and I have four Children; Jack (16), Emma (14), Sophia (12) and Brooks (8) who are all in the Glen Ellyn schools and active in a number of sports. I enjoy golf, and otherwise enjoy time with the family and attending kids events.
